App crashes and black screen when scanning a driving's license

If the CarBuddii app instantly crashes or displays a black screen when you try to scan a driver's license or open a Booking in order to scan a license, the app is likely missing permission to use your device's camera.


 

Why This Happens

Apple devices (iPhones and iPads) handle missing permissions strictly. Instead of showing a clear warning that you need to enable the camera, iOS will simply force the app to close or show a black screen because it is blocked from accessing the hardware. Android devices may occasionally act similarly. Giving the app the correct permissions will instantly resolve the crashing.

 


 

How to Fix on iOS (iPhone & iPad)

  • Open the main Settings app on your device.
     
  • Scroll down your main settings menu until you find your list of installed apps, and tap CarBuddii.
     
  • Look for the Camera toggle and make sure it is switched to the green "ON" position.
     
  • Alternatively, you can go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera to view the list of all apps that have requested access, and toggle CarBuddii on from there.

How to Fix on Android

  • Long-press the CarBuddii app icon on your device's home screen and tap the small "i" (App info) circle.
     
  • Go to Permissions.
     
  • Make sure the Camera permission is explicitly allowed (usually set to "Allow only while using the app").
     
  • Alternatively, open your device's Settings app, navigate to Security & Privacy, tap Privacy, and then select Permission manager to locate and allow CarBuddii's camera access.


     

Quick Tip
After updating the settings on either platform, force close the CarBuddii app by swiping it away and reopen it. You should now be able to scan driver's licenses without any crashes!
 
 
 

Still have issues?

Sometimes settings can resist these changes or an underlying issue may prevent you from updating the Carbuddii app. If the above fails, try deleting the app and reinstalling it again from the App Store or Google Play, and log in using the Carbuddii Dashboard.
